Localized Yeast Infections

The medical name for yeast infections is candidiasis, though there are other common names used for them, Thrush when it is oral, candidiasis, and moniliasis. It can affect anywhere on the body and can also be an internal problem in the gut. When it affects one specific area outside the body this is one of the localized yeast infections that can occur when conditions are right. Anyone can be affected by localized yeast infections, though those with weaker immune systems are more prone. Examples of localized yeast infections include Thrush, Vaginitis, Anal and this article will take a look at what causes them, symptoms that can occur and the most common form.

Vaginal yeast infection
This is the most common form of localized yeast infections and for that reason is mistakenly thought to be a female only genital infection. In fact both genders can be and are affected, it is just that the vagina is the perfect breeding ground for the fungus that causes it. Candida albicans is the most common candida species though there are others, and they are on the rise. The vagina is moist and warm and when an imbalance of flora occur the candida quickly multiplies, leaving toxins as waste that trigger the symptoms of a yeast infection. While it is a common infection for women, two thirds of women who develop symptoms presume incorrectly that they have a yeast infection and then go on to miss treat themselves. There are other conditions that have the same or similar symptoms so getting a proper doctor’s diagnosis is important.
