Candida albicans are the main cause of all yeast infection forms in people, including skin yeast infection, sometimes known as intertrigo or cutaneous candidiasis. They can happen anywhere on the skin but most often occur where it is dark, warm and moist such as in folds of skin, under breasts, under the arms. Symptoms vary from person to person but include;
- a red flat rash with scalloped edges
- satellite lesions or pustules around the main rash
- itching
- pain
- fluid leaking from the rash
- inflammation
- scaling
- pimple like bumps
- burning
Obese people with more folds of skin are going to be more prone to skin yeast infections as are those that live in humid and hot climates, wear tight or abrasive clothing, have poor hygiene or have a prolonged used of topical steroids.
