Vaginal Yeast Infection – Yeast Medication

Obviously a female problem, vaginal yest infections can leave sufferers in a lot of discomfort and with some horrible symptoms. These can include pain when urinating, irritation, itching, pain during sex and burning. There are several things you can do to ease the discomfort of the infection and treat it. Vaginal yeast infection medication is commonly used in the form of creams and suppositories, usually applied to the vagina and around it. There is also pill forms available and the length of treatment depends on how severe the vaginal yeast infection is and can vary from person to person.

The difference between creams and suppositories and pills is that the pills treat the whole body whereas the other two treat the area they are used on or in. Oral yeast medication is the less messy and easiest but if you are pregnant you can not use them as since they treat the whole body this means they can affect the fetus.

When comparing these treatments you need to consider the differences between them. There are less side effects with suppositories and creams because of their topical nature. Oral treatments however do come with side effects including headaches, nausea, stomach pain, and more, so though easier to take people who wish to avoid these side effects may want to opt for a different treatment.

On the other hand, the creams are messy and there can sometimes be some minor discomfort when using either them or suppositories. Also you need to be careful if you are still having sexual intercourse as diaphragms and condoms are less effective as birth control when you are using either the suppositories or the creams. Both contraceptives are affected by the oil in the treatments so be careful in case of pregnancy. It may be a good idea to abstain while you are taking the treatment to be on the safe side.

Before making any firm decisions make sure you discuss your options with your doctor.
